Rethinking fibroblast functions at a single cell resolution

Fibroblasts generate the extracellular matrix that defines solid tumors. However, we continue to see that fibroblasts function as more than just cellular scar factories.

We have identified three broad classes of fibroblasts in our recent Cancer Cell publication. We are now expanding these findings to classify fibroblast roles in all solid tumors.

By establishing the boundaries of what a fibroblast can do, we can start identifying drivers of each role and use this knowledge to discover new therapies in fibrotic cancers.
